Receiver-in-the-Ear Hearing Aids (RIC)

Receiver-in-the-Ear Hearing Aids (RIC)

Receiver-in-the-Ear Hearing Aids (RIC)Receiver-in-the-ear (RIC) aids are far and away the most popular hearing aids. Their comfortable fit and superior sound quality make it a top choice for individuals with mild to severe hearing loss.

Like most behind-the-ear styles, RIC hearing aids gently rest atop or just behind the ear. The receiver bud sits directly inside the ear canal. A thin wire connects the receiver to the outer components and molds easily to the natural shape of the ear.

Small and Discreet

Removing the speaker from the primary component and separating the hearing aid into two units allows the device to be smaller and more compact than other hearing aids. Coupled with the receiver’s transparent tubing very thin wire, this sleek device is discreet and almost undetectable.

Similar to other open-fit style hearing aids, RIC devices don’t require bulky custom earmolds. This lessens the risk of problems stemming from occlusion. It also provides for a more comfortable wear.

Powerful and Clear

RIC devices deliver clear, distinct sound. When sound travels from a speaker above the ear, through a hollow tube, and down the ear canal to the eardrum, such as with a BTE hearing aid, a lot of information can be lost along the way. High frequencies, where sounds like S and T occur, are the first to become muffled and unclear.

RIC hearing aids place the speaker directly in the ear canal, closer to the eardrum. This unobstructed design allows for more natural sound that isn’t tinny or distorted.

Separating the speaker from the microphone minimizes feedback and whistling. Individuals receive superb sound that is amplified and distinct.

Risk-Free

If you would like to trial a pair of RIC hearing aids, call our office to schedule a free hearing evaluation and hearing aid trial.
